Free Loaner and Discounted Displacement Sensors for Educational Purposes |
News ReleaseEngineering and Technical Students Reduce Outlays While Obtaining High Performance Products PALMDALE, CALIFORNIA USA -- University students can now complete research and development projects requiring displacement measurement at lower cost and in less time when they participate in the SpaceAge Control Educational Transducer Program. The Educational Transducer Program lets students purchase up to four position transducer (displacement sensor) at a 50% discount. Students are required to provide a copy of a thesis, term paper, research report, or other documentation describing the project and its conclusions. Recent projects include Formula SAE (Ohio State), Rose Parade Float animation (Cal Poly), solar vehicle development (UC Davis), robotic motion and control (MIT, Michigan State University), and autonomous aircraft flight control (UCLA, Stanford University). Applications for the program are available at http://www.spaceagecontrol.com/reqeduc.htm. SpaceAge Control cable-type position transducers provide extended-life, high-reliability displacement measurement in compact, easily-mounted packaging. The flexible and space-efficient products use a stainless steel cable wound around a stainless steel drum. The bearing-mounted drum is mated to a precision sensing element that translates linear position information to an electrical signal. This transducer technology gives high precision, easy installation, and fast calibration. The products may be quickly mounted using threaded fasteners, optional rotatable mounting bases, custom installation plates, adhesives, magnets, clamps, and suction cups. SpaceAge Control designs and manufactures miniature position transducers (displacement sensors) that are small, flexible alternatives to LVDTs, encoders, and potentiometers. The products are used in a broad array of applications ranging from earthmoving to Space Station environmental control. The ISO 9001-compliant company was started in 1968 and is located in Palmdale, California USA.
